Sahara Inc. Announces New Leadership Role for Senior VP
February 04, 2008 – West Bountiful, UT – The President and CEO of Sahara Inc., Tom Mabey, announced today the promotion of Michael D. Teare, Sahara’s current Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, to the role of President. Mabey will retain the role of CEO and Chairman of the Board.
Mabey, who founded Sahara, a Utah-based construction management company, emphasized that this change is only a formality. “Michael Teare has recently been performing the duties of a company president and now deserves the title and the authority,” said Mabey. “My role at Sahara will see a minimal change, however, this move will allow me more time to maintain and preserve my personal relationships with clients, which I have always revered, and to continue guiding the vision of the organization.”
Michael Teare, began his career working as a laborer while studying mechanical engineering and has since been promoted through numerous levels of supervision and management while serving a number of national firms. Prior to coming to Sahara, Teare was the Senior Vice President and Manager of Construction for Martin K. Eby Construction Company Inc., in Wichita, Kansas. He has diverse experience in the construction industry, having worked on notable projects throughout the United States. These projects include Concourse C at the Denver International Airport; the Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium at the University of Texas; and Phase One, for Texas A&M University. Teare’s experience includes industrial, civil, higher education, transportation, and hospitality projects for both public and private owners.
“I’ve learned there are common denominators that lead to lasting success,” said Teare after accepting his new title. “Invest in training and developing your associates, treat your clients as the valued partners that they are, and treat your subcontractors and suppliers as the critically important team members they are.” Teare went on to add, “This approach is foundational in the way Sahara strives to provide its services.”
Since its inception in 1985, Sahara, Inc. has been involved in a wide variety of challenging projects throughout the Western United States. Most of the work Sahara constructs is fast-track, design/build projects with very aggressive schedules. Sahara has performed work in industrial, institutional, and commercial and retail categories ranging from remodels and additions to new facilities with values from $750,000 to $100 million. The company was the principal contractor on some of Utah’s most visible projects, including the Energy Solutions Arena, Jordan Commons, Franklin Quest Field and the Cottonwood Corporate Center.
Sahara believes that a culture based on service to others fosters an environment where proactivity, quality and innovation can flourish. In 2002 the company established SaharaCares, now a 501c3 foundation, focusing on programs and projects that involve children at risk. It also provides support and volunteers for a number of non-profit organizations throughout Utah and Arizona.
