This new public safety complex located at Salt Lake Community College is a 152,000 sf, Three-Story Public Safety Police Academy and Administration Offices including a Culinary Arts School, dormitory and firing range. The Public Safety Building/Dormitory houses and trains Cadets in a 12- to 16-week course. It is also used to train current officers with refresher courses and enable them to share new technology. The Public Safety Building includes a crime lab that functions for both the Department of Public Safety and also for student training. It has defensive tactics areas with large areas to temporarily build out simulated rooms such as jail cells and apartment buildings for mock exercises. This area includes large open areas and mats to be utilized in practicing proper techniques. The fitness rooms are equipped with weights and exercise equipment as well as locker rooms for men and women. The Public Safety Building also includes a completely outfitted filming studio where training videos will be made.
